Light Proofs Exhibition Statement:

Light, the agent of photography, becomes the central subject of this collection of photographs.

It billows in clouds through windows and water.

It is squeezed through holes and gaps illuminating shapes and patterns that produce ambiguities of scale, subject and context.

Atmospherics, reflections and refractions create delicate overlaid threads, contradictions of perspective and sudden, unexpected flashes of colour.

Longer exposures reveal powerful glares and explosive shards of light as they play on surfaces and objects.

The different media upon which the images are captured adds a variety of textures, tones and colour balances, from the finest details to strong contrasts of black and white.

The physical subjects of these pictures, from muddy puddles to a partial solar eclipse, are transformed by the qualities of light, time of day and seasons during the seconds, minutes or hours in which the moments of capture by the camera took place.

Chance observations combine with the conscious act  of capturing a particular image at a particular time.
